1st International Conference on “Europe in Discourse: Identity, Diversity, Borders”

Hellenic American University, Manchester, New Hampshire, USA, in cooperation with Hellenic American College, Athens, Greece, is pleased to announce that online registration for the International Conference on Europe in Discourse: Identity, Diversity, Borders is now open.

Registration includes:

  • attendance and participation at all conference sessions and presentations, including plenary addresses and parallel sessions;
  • lunch and coffee breaks on the days of the conference;
  • Conference welcome reception;
  • and access to the Conference proceedings.

There will be a Conference Dinner on Saturday September 24th 2016. The cost of the dinner is not included in the registration fee. If you wish to attend, you will need to purchase a ticket when you register.

Self-censoring font

The Department of Homeland Security has a list of 370 words it tracks on social media to identify possible terroristic or public health treats and follow unfolding natural disasters. A downloadable font from designer Emil Kozole, brilliantly illustrates these linguistic triggers by redacting these so-called spook words. Type something as innocent as “facility” or “San Diego” and before your cursor even jumps a space ahead, the word is hidden behind a black strike-through.
