Ebola: A Crisis of Communications Over and over again, aid workers report that people do not have the knowledge they need to contain this deadly disease. In a major survey in Sierra Leone (late September) UNICEF found:
Aid workers know kissing deceased loved ones is a major cause of the epidemic (the virus is most potent right before and right after death). And yet the ritual continues. They also know epidemics can be reduced if the practice of eating bats (a delicacy in West Africa) is reduced or eliminated. Yet this knowledge is not effectively passed on to those who need it.

Amit Agarwal created a Google Sheet that’s powered by Google Scripts, and translates all language pairs that are supported by Google Translate in real-time. This means that once you save a copy of the Google Sheet to your own Google Drive, you can share it with anyone who writes in another language and have a real-time chat within the document. Just enter your contact’s name along with yours in the cells provided, select each participants native language from a drop-down menu, and start typing in the colored fields.

Google this evening has announced a new Chrome extension that ties directly in with Google Translate. The new extension allows you to highlight a piece of text on a web page and then click the Translate icon that pops up. Alternatively, you can right-click on a phrase and choose “Google Translate” from the list of options.

A major step in implementing the ETPN Translation Hub has been reached, with three European projects entering the finalisation stage of their EU Grant Agreements. The project ENATRANS is for networking of SMEs in the nano-biomedical sector and supporting the SMEs with getting their products from the laboratory phase to the clinical applications. The projects ‘NANOFACTURING’ and ‘NANOPILOT’ will establish pilot lines to scale-up the production of novel nanopharmaceuticals from the lab-scale to the quantities needed for clinical testing.
